Temple of Augustus
The Temple of Augustus is dedicated to the first Roman Emperor Augustus and it is the most famous monument in Pula. It was built after his death, between 2 BC and AD 14, and it was also a place of worship of goddess Roma. The function of the temple was changing through the history: at the end of pagan antiquity, the main function of the temple ceased, and it was used as a church, then as grain storage, in the early nineteenth century it was home to the museum of stone monuments. In 1944, it was hit by a bomb and almost completely destroyed, the reconstruction was carried out from 1945 - 1947. Today the temple houses a collection of ancient sculptures in stone and bronze.
There was also a second twin temple, from which only the back wall is preserved today, it is assumed that it was built at the same time and in the same style as the Temple of Augustus, and that it's name was the Temple of Diana.
