Merlin Association for Promotion of Creativity

MuzejOn 23 January 2014, the students of the preschool playroom in the center "Morning Flower" visited the Museum of the Town of Vodnjan, accompanied by their educators and volunteers. In the museum, the children examined the collection of stone monuments from the archaeological sites in the area and learned about the town's history. They learned that Vodnjan is situated on a plateau, about 6 km away from the sea. The area was inhabited in prehistoric times (ruins in the area) and Roman times (the ruins of Roman rural villas). Name Vodnjan derives from the personal name of a Roman, who was first reported in written sources in 1150, as vicus Atinianus. The town has preserved its medieval urban character of the unfortified settlement with few main streets, winding side streets and alleys, palaces (with Gothic and Renaissance details) and churches, such as the largest Church of St. Blaise, built from 1760 to 1850. By the middle of 19th century, Vodnjan was more developed and had more population than nearby Pula, which later surpassed Vodnjan on all accounts.

Children attending preschool playroom and workshop "Help in learning" have access to organized trips and visits to museums and theaters in the county and the surrounding area, as a part of the project run by the Merlin Association.
